Surfacing No. 1
This piece takes the concept of "catching a wave" to a literal new height. In this composition, the surfboard doesn't just skim the water—it breaches it with the focused intensity of a rocket clearing the launchpad. It’s an artistic tribute to the mechanics of flight and the thrill of seeing something heavy and earthbound suddenly defy gravity.
The board features a high-contrast, electric floral photomontage that pops against the deep blues of the Long Island Sound. To get the perfect "splashdown" effect, I utilized photography taken during the peak of an Atlantic hurricane. While my local shoreline is usually a place of quiet reflection, the storm’s fury provided the explosive, churning whitewater necessary to ground this surreal "lift-off" in a moment of raw power.
It is a joyful, vibrant reimagining of coastal life, where the surfboard becomes a vessel for both floral beauty and aerodynamic wonder.
