Surfacing No. 2
This piece captures a moment of pure, upward momentum. Part of a series that playfully imagines surfboards as aerodynamic vessels, this work explores the thrill of "lifting off" from the ocean’s surface. Inspired by the high-stakes precision of aerospace engineering and the power of rocket launches, the composition transforms a traditional coastal icon into an object of flight.
While my local waters are typically calm, the churning surf seen here was captured during the height of an Atlantic hurricane. The raw, explosive energy of those storm-driven waves provides the perfect backdrop for a surfboard decked out in one of my vibrant floral photomontages of Lantana.
By merging the chaotic power of the sea with a bold, botanical aesthetic, this image celebrates the joy of things and ideas taking flight.
