Opened in 1936, the Bay Bridge, connecting San Francisco and Oakland, CA, has one of the longest spans in the United States. It is a complex system of unique and independent structures. Towers for the six suspension spans are composed of riveted steel, with an overall design that includes a massive lattice pattern of bracing between the tower posts.
